Invisible Chains

No one can see them,

no one even senses their presence.

Unseeable are the blisters,

upon my wrists and ankles

from the sleepless nights

I've spent wrestling

with these chains.

No matter how I tug and pull

at these chains,

they never break!

Never have I tasted sweetness of freedom.

Never have my boundaries been unmarked.

But thankfully,

these chains are not bound by lock and key,

but by time itself,

and one day,

these chains shall break off of me

and I will run free with joy untold!
