I long for summer when the skies
Are stained the colour of your eyes
Your pink cotton dress and nails to match
Made my breath so hard to catch
The swing of your hip and cooling sea breeze,
Set my aching soul at ease
I miss your kiss, your smile and touch
Your absence irks me very much
This year I won’t be sending flowers
Or gazing into your eyes for hours
There’ll be no urgent, passionate embracing
With hearts on fire and pulses racing
We won’t toast love with champagne
Damp sheets wont remind us where we’ve lain
But I wrote you this poem so you’ll know
The flame inside me is still aglow
This year you’re not my Valentine
And perhaps never again will you be mine
But I won’t forget the love you gave me
Or how it felt to have you kiss me
I remember these things as I lay in bed
As your words tumble around my head
And I answer you quietly in my own way
When ‘Tell me something good’ you say…
To me, you are the most beautiful girl who ever lived.
