This is about my grandfather.
You stand beside me,
telling me everything will be okay,
watching the storm pass,
waiting for the time of peace,
holding my hand through it all.

when the storm has passed and it's time for me to leave,
you stand,
waving goodbye,
with a smile,
even though it hurts you and it's the hardest thing you have to do,
you hide it all be hide your smile.

i could always tell,
even though you were trying to hide it,
even though you thought i couldn't.
and i'm sure you can tell that i am too.

because now it's my turn to plaster on a smile too hide my sadness,

i'm standing beside you,
telling you everything will be okay,
watching the storm in your eyes grow stronger,
waiting for your time of peace,
i know it will not come,
i'm holding your hand through it all,

now the storm is gone, it's time for you to leave.
i'm standing here,
waving goodbye,
with a smile,
even though it hurts me and it's the hardest thing i have ever had to do.
i'm standing trying my best to hide it with a smile.

Now i know you can tell,
as my wet, heavy, tears spill down my face,
soaking my shirt,
i'm terrified,
even though the storm is gone,
because this time you left with it,
because this time i'm not holding your hand,
because this is the last time i will ever wave goodbye,
because this time
you aren't waving back.....
