The loss of a loved one is hard, but for some a rebirth is a glimpse of hope
The air in the room around them seemed to grow even thicker as Damianos stood by the fireplace.  Anyone who truly understood the type of person Evangeline was knew that she would be furious about what she was being told by him.  That is everyone but Damianos would know how mad she would get.  He never fathomed her reaction would be so belligerent.  Had he actually known, he never would have told her.

“Please Evangeline, just hear me out.  There is no reason for you to be like this; you are acting like a child by blowing things out of proportion.”

“Blowing things out of proportion?”  She glared at him with hatred in her eyes as she threw her arms in the air.  The shrillness of her yell caused him to grab his ears.

“You’re getting angry for no apparent reason.”

“How the hell could you expect anything less then anger with the immoral suggestion that you are coming to me with?”

“It’s not as bad as you seem to think it is Evangeline.”

“Not as bad as I think it is?  Who do you think you are, God’s gift to women, or just humanity itself?”

“No I don’t think that I am G...Go...God’s gift to anyone; you don’t have the right to talk to me like this Evangeline.  Now sit your ass down and just relax!”

“After what you just told me, do you honestly think that I would be calm about all of this?”  Her voice echoed so loudly that it shook the windows.  “You are lower than the dirt we walk on!  You have no right to tell me what I should or shouldn’t do! How dare you come to me with this betrayal crap?”

“Actually I have every right to tell you what to do; you are nothing but a useless woman.  The only use women have is tending to the house and the children they have.”

“I have more use than you do Damianos; you are nothing but a traitor to your people and to my husband.  You are the one that is useless; not me.”

“Neither of you have any idea just what you are doing.”

“And yet you are the one who has been banished.”

“I knew that I shouldn’t have told you a damn thing, you are as much a fool as that damned Achillios!”  He growled as he crossed his arms over his chest.

“Don’t you cross your arms at me in anger, Damianos, he is anything but damned.  It is you that should be worried about being damned.”

“Who the hell do you think you are, talking to me that way?”  Damianos hollered at her; his eyes filled with hatred.

She yelled at him with revulsion in her voice.  “You have absolutely no right to be upset with my reaction.  How would you feel if you were in my shoes?”

“I wouldn’t be pulling the temper tantrum that you are pulling.  How Achillios puts up with you I will never know, but what I do know is that you need to sit the hell down.”

He jerked her by the arm to make her sit down.

“Let me go, Damianos,” she screamed out in pain.  “You are hurting me!”

“Oh trust me, Evangeline; if I wanted to truly hurt you I would have no problem doing so.  Now sit down and listen to me for once!”

“The hell I will!”  She jerked her arm away from him in protest.  Before he had the chance to stop her, she stumbled backwards, falling out of the window.

“Damn it Evangeline.” He screamed as he ran to the window.  He stared out, hoping for some type of a miracle. Sadly it was a lost hope.  Gazing out into the family cemetery, he noticed that she was pierced through the stomach by the upward hand of an angel statue.  Her blood began to flow down the arm of the statue, changing the ivory figure to a crimson red.

“You couldn’t just give yourself up freely,” He jumped out of the window and landed next to her nearly lifeless body.  “At least it isn’t all a complete loss.”

“Don’t you go near her demon,” A woman screamed as she stepped out into the moonlight.

“Why shouldn’t I?  She is mine now, therefore I will do whatever I want with her.”

“She is not for your demonic pleasure.”

She walked over to Evangeline, and placed her hand upon the young woman’s head.  After saying a few words, she smiled as she watched Evangeline take her last breath.

“What the hell did you do Luciana?”  He hollered, his eyes turning as red as the blood that flowed under his feet.  “Answer me angel!”

The wind began to quickly pick up, blowing the red and yellow leaves off of the trees as Luciana smiled at Damianos.

Her hair began to blow wildly in the breeze, appearing as if it were like a fire raging out of control.

“There is a higher purpose for Evangeline, and I am not going to allow a scumbag like you corrupt her soul.  She was and will remain an innocent woman, and the likes of you won‘t have the power to change her.”

“What the hell are you doing this for, Luciana?”

“This is the one person you won’t have for your sick and demented plans Damianos.”  Her eyes shined a sapphire blue as the moonlight shinned in them. The look of fulfillment came across her face as she smiled at the enraged demon in front of her.

Anger grew even deeper within him as the storm around them began to blow even harder.  His eyes flashed crimson red, as his lips drew back, as he let out a loud growl, “What the hell did you do?”

“What needs to be asked is not what she has done, but what the hell are you doing here, Damianos, when you were banished from here?”  A man asked as he approached the two of them.

Damianos spun around to see Achillios standing in front of him with his sword drawn towards him.

“You don’t really think that you can kill me with that do you?”  He snarled as the light reflected off of Achillios’ sword.

“No, but you will be hurting like hell if I decide to use it on you.”

As the lightning struck and lit up the sky, Achillios became upset at the sight of his wife’s body that had now been pierced by the statue of their son. In complete horror, Achillios ran up toe the statue, and gently lifted his dearest Evangeline off of the now bloodstained statue.

Anger began to engulf him as he laid her down upon the lush grass.  Picking up his sword, he quickly turned to face Damianos.  The hatred that swiftly filled his heart, made it seem as if he had never loved anyone before in his life.  “What the hell could she have possibly done to you to deserve this fate Damianos?”

“She was alive wasn’t she?  She loved you didn’t she?  That is all she had to do, besides refuse to see things my way.”  Damianos evilly grinned at Achillios, his red eyes sparkling with satisfaction to what he had just said and done.

Achillios screamed as he struck Damianos across his face, cutting him from his eyebrow down his cheek.

“Damn you seeker!” Damianos grabbed his face in agony.  “This is far from over between me and you!”  He vanished into the darkened night, the roar of the thunder matching the ferocity of the demon.

“Why did this happen to her Luciana?”  Achillios dropped to his knees next to Evangeline and began to cry.

“Achillios, you must listen carefully to me.”  Luciana knelt next to him and placed her hand on his shoulder.

“I can’t believe that she is dead!”  He fell to his knees and began to cry.

“Your beloved Evangeline is not dead.”

Holding Evangeline’s head in his lap, he looked at the angel perplexed.  “How can that be when I am holding her lifeless body in my lap and her blood has completely covered our son’s grave?”

“She is not gone little brother,” She smiled at him.  “I knew what he would do to her if he had her soul, therefore I sent it far away so that she may be reborn, but you must find her before he does.”

“What if I can’t find her?”

“If not then all hope is lost, and she will be changed like our brothers were years ago when they died on the battlefield.”

“How am I supposed to do that Luci?  That would take longer than I have left in my life to do.”

“You will be given the same gift that Damianos was given Lio, so you will have all the time that you need to find her.”

“What gift is that?  He is nothing but a monster, and I don’t want to be given any type of gift like he has.”

“He abused his gift Achillios,” she sighed as she looked up into the night sky.

“You can say that again.”

“He wasn’t always evil, but Satan’s glamour easily corrupted him.  You are pure at heart, so I know that you won’t become anything like him.”

Achillios looked at his sister; without saying a word the agony he was feeling was apparent.

“Once you truly find her you will be able to rid the world of Damianos, and you will be able to give her this gift, if she chooses, but neither of you will have his downfalls.”

Achillios slowly stood up and looked down at Evangeline’s lifeless face.  Even in death she was absolutely beautiful to him.

As far as he was concerned, she was just as beautiful as the sky when the sun first begins to rise in the morning. Looking upon her angelic face, he began to remember the day that she became his wife.

Achillios stood in the front of the church, with both of his brothers standing by his side.  As he looked around the small room, he anxiously waited for Evangeline to walk down the aisle.  Turning to face the priest, he inhaled deeply.

“You look as if you are about to pass out brother,” his brother leaned over and whispered into his ear. “ Are you okay?”

“I’m fine,” he swallowed hard. “Not being able to see her since last night is just driving me crazy right now.”

“Shh,” Mikhail interrupted, “ the doors are opening now.”

Achillios smiled as he watched her enter the room, her mahogany hair was pinned up with two curls resting upon her soft ivory face. As she glanced at Achillios, she softly smiled.

“Dearly beloved we are gathered here to join this couple in holy matrimony. We are here to witness as Achillios…”

“Achillios...” Luciana shook his arm, “Achillios?”

He shook his head as he looked up at his sister.

“Oh yeah...sorry,” he looked back at Evangeline’s body. “ What are the differences?

“First of all, you won’t need to take in blood to sustain yourself.  Basically you will have the same attributes of that demonic vampire, but you won’t be the same evil being that he has become.  There is only one catch to this Achillios, and it is very important.”

Achillios hesitated as he slowly moved his honey toned brown hair out of his face.

“What kind of catch Luci?”

“First we need to give Evangeline a proper burial,” Luciana said with sadness in her voice.  “Then we can go inside and I will tell you everything that you need to know.”

Achillios carefully picked up his wife’s body and carried her to their pre-picked plot in the private cemetery.  Because she had no living relatives, there wasn’t anyone he had to notify about her demise.

As he slowly dug the grave for his darling wife, the tears began to flow down his face. Everything he had truly loved was now lying lifeless before him.  His entire life had come to an abrupt halt. Damianos had sought to destroy everything about Achillios, and in just one moment in time he had achieved that very thing.

“Achillios I know you are in dire pain right now, and believe me I know you are at the end of your rope, but you can’t give up because if you do you will let him win.”

“What is the point Luciana?  I have nothing without Evangeline by my side.”  The words poured out of his mouth with absolutely nothing behind them. Nothing that is, but anguish and the echoes of a man defeated.

“If you just give up Achillios, then what would become of everyone else?”

“What do you mean?”  He gently laid Evangeline in her grave, and looked up at Luciana, the dirt being washed from his face, as the rain quickly fell upon his face.

“You are the man chosen to fight against Damianos, and his evil legion to save humanity.”

“How could I possibly do that and find her all over again by myself?”  He slowly got up and began to bury the only person in his life that kept him from going into the oblivion of darkness and solitude.

“You won’t be alone Lio.”

“What did you say?”  He snapped around to face the woman in front of him.

“You won’t be alone to find her.”

“How could I possibly not be alone Luci?  You tell me that one if I don’t have Evangeline with me, and you of all of God’s creation know that you can’t physically help me.”

“Soon you will have three unique individuals come into your life.  In order to achieve what is asked of you, you must raise them to fight on the side of good.  Raise them to know that they are not evil, or unwanted.  Raise them to follow the path that God wants everyone to follow.  Teach them to master their gifts, and then you will be able to find your reborn love.”

“What do you mean unique individuals?  Teach them to master what gifts?”  He looked at her frustrated by the mystery of it all.  He just didn’t understand what she meant by it all.  “None of this is making any sense to me Luciana.  What does training them have to do with finding Evangeline?”

“You will find out in time Lio, now go in and get some rest. You no longer have time for doubts or worries.  She must be found, and soon.”
