Chapter two of Rob's journey. Read chapter one first.
As he opens the door an overpowering smell hits his nostrils. His wife backs up and he says " Honey, just stand outside and I'll be there in a moment." As she steps back he goes in and sees blood on the ground. He follows it to the kitchen, and on the floor is Mrs. Stevenson, next to an open drawer, with half of her face looking like it was chewed off by wild dogs. He closes her remaining eye and out of the corner of his eyes he spots a key with the inscription "Garage" on it. He decides that that is enough of a clue for him, then heads for the garage. He gets to the door and turns the knob to find it open. As he walked in he saw a large wooden chest with a padlock on it so he he walks over to it. He reached the chest and pulled out the key, he looks at it then slips it into the padlock twists and it comes right off. He opens it and he sees an automatic handgun and another rifle, though this one looks like a .308, with plenty of ammo. As he's walking back to the door he sees a cover over something big. He pulls the cover off and he sees a gun that is probably illegal. " It probably doesn't matter now, though."
He walks out of the house and says " Alright, let's go get Jackson." They move as fast as possible and within half an hour they arrive at the daycare. As they saw the outside of the daycare their hearts sank, the scene in front of him was one of blood and death. He runs at the already open door and slams through into the main room. He sees a dead child on the floor that is missing a leg, and across the hall there is one with a knife in his back with what looks to Rob like a broken knee. After he makes sure that neither kid is his child he runs to the next room and finds that one of the teachers is crouching over a kid chewing on his body.
" Daddy... daddyyyyy." He could have sworn that it was his kid's voice, so he pulled the .44 took aim and shot the woman in the side, she screamed and rolled off of the kid. He runs at the kid, but before he got there she stood back up and jumped at him. she crashed into him and they rolled to the ground. She pinned his arms to the ground, and snapped at his throat with her teeth, but missed. He wrestled one of his arms free then punched her in the face. She fell off of him and he grabbed the .44 and shot at her but he missed. She stood up and ran at him. This time he shot at her head and watched as half of it blew off into little, bloody, bits.
He dropped the .44 and ran to the boy. " Jackson. Jackson are you alright?" The boy was his kid, and his stomach was a bloody mess, with his intestines hanging out. Rob feels sick but held it back and he grabs the kids hand. " How are you bud?"
" Daddy, it hurts bad. I think I need to go to the doctor daddy."
" Yeah. Maybe you do need to go to the doctor bud." His voice was shaking and tears were rolling down his cheeks but he knows that he has to keep himself together.
" Daddy, I have something to... to..... to......." His breath stops and his body goes slack. He feels himself starting to lose it.
" Ahhhhhhhh!!! Honey where are you!? There are hundreds of them out there. Come on."
" I'm coming honey. We have to get out of the city right now." He starts to walk to the front door.
" Where is Jackson?"
" He didn't make it. One of the crazies got him, but I killed her."
" No! Oh my God! No! He can't be dead."
" Honey, we have to go. Now!!"
" O.k. we'll go." She was crying now. He knew that they would have to stop to so that she could rest later or she wouldn't make it. As he looked down the highway that they would be taking he saw a huge shape in the smoke. He starts to reload his .44 and think of all of the zombie movies he saw as a kid.
" Damn. We aren't going to make it." He says under his breath. They start to run down alleys and back roads to avoid as many zombies, it's what he decided to call them for lack of a better name, as possible. He was happy that they made it through without any more fighting.
