Lessons from the winter trees.
Winter trees

Winter trees, I look to thee.
My life a question mark, you see.

You’re sturdy, reaching to the sky
but jobless to the naked eye.

No leaves to feed, no shade to give
yet gift you are, by how you live,

like butterflies in their cocoons,
to blossom wide, but not too soon.

For now, you gather light and rain
and never question why you came,

why God or man has planted you.
Your gift is simply what you do,

to stand erect, to grow some leaves,
to nourish souls and help us breathe,

while we sit aimless, praying for
divine instructions to move us forward.

And what if divine instructions come
while doing as winter trees have done.

"Be still, observe, be patient too
and soon your purpose will be known by you."
