Home can be a trap, when you hate coming home.
God has a funny way of doing things. The world was very different from what it was. The dark, evil, scum infested world it use to be.

I only ever see him. Just him. His name is Bryce. Other than my brothers and father, he is the only other male I can see. And I am the only female. There are others around us, but we can't see them. And we never will.

I first saw Bryce when I was walking to the mailbox. Nothing unusual, except that I could focus on him, unlike anyone else that surrounded me. I felt a strange distance between the faceless ghost, and this boy walking towards me. He walked straight up to me, and looked into my eyes. He had the most beautiful eyes I had seen. Blue, with flecks of green in them. I couldn't look away from them. It was so strange.

I don't like looking people in the eye. It's uncomfortable for me, and feels evasive. But with him, it seemed almost natural.

"Hello, My name is Bryce. It's nice to see your face." He spoke hesitantly, worried that I would be offended at how blunt his greeting was. My face flushed, and I did something I hadn't done in a very long time. I smiled.

"Hello. I'm Caitlin. You have beautiful eyes, did you know that?" I couldn't stop smiling at him. The first person to see me. The person God had decided was for me.

My eyes opened with a snap. I had never actually fallen asleep. I never did. Bryce lay next to me, still in slumber. The clock showed that it was 3:19 in the morning. I slipped out of the bed and walked out onto the dark porch. It was warm, but not too humid. Lovely time in Colorado. I loved the way I could breathe without having someone breathing down my neck.
