How do you really show somebody you love them? I don't have to prove it to anyone but her.
I could build monuments to you…

I could build monuments to you,
Erect statues in your honor
As a testament to my love
So that all the world may witness.

But monuments grow old, moss creeps
Over the fallen marble blocks
Where the magnificent high tower
Once touched the feet of Heaven.

So instead of preaching to strangers
For I have nothing to prove to them,
I will hold you tight and love you
In this moment and the next, ad infinitum.

When we go, we’ll not leave a cold
Stone phallus of misplaced ambition;
Rather, a pile of entangled bones
Beneath a blanket by the hearth
In the dead of winter, while our
Souls hover above and exclaim:
“That was life, most truly—
To find warmth in a frozen world.”
