Trying to get to South Africa...
Ok, so I didn't actually manage to get far. 60 km outside Harare (southwards) just pas a town called Beatrice, my coolingtank split, the Discovery overheated rapidly and probably blew out the engine. I could cry! Apparently its not an uncommon thing to happen and they usually advice you to change the tank once a while. I still feel terrible about it. I'm very glad it didn't happen to my dad when he was 400 km away from civilisation off the beaten track, or that it happened to me 200 km further on the route for that matter.
Ralph had taken me to just outside Harare, where its basically just a straight road to the border of South Africa, and waved me off there. 5 km later I ran into a police roadblock, where I had to pay 10 dollars because I didn't have a third license plate. I looked at him, and basically asked, how many do you need?! But apparently I was missing a sticker of some sort. Most of the police were perfectly friendly, but one was a complete misogynist, giving me a lecture about how I should stay with my husband and that women cannot control their urges, yadiyadiyada...! Wut?! Neanderthal.
Swearing a blue streak I drove off again, and after I calmed down, I was thinking of a new name to give the Discovery. Something trusty she could live up to. While I was thinking of that, tac-tac-tac, brrrrrrrrrt, splutter, splutter -silence- .... of course.

Two guys hanging around the road walked up to me while I was trying to get out of the car because the door had jammed (in the end I just crawled out the back) and we peered hesitantly into the motor, just some water and smoke. I decided to wait for it to cool down, but after a while it still wouldn't start. Luckily a man, Simon, came by who offered to tow me to the nearest place (Beatrice) after also peering into the motor and finding that the coolingtank was empty. He was driving a Toyota Landcruiser, and he was beating on my poor discovery. Apparently in Africa there is a friendly competition and debate going on about which is the best off-roader, Landcruiser or Landrover. I was very very grateful that he helped me and let me call Barbara and Ralph, who towed me back to Harare.
I'm not sure how long it will take before the Discovery is road worthy, but I'll keep you all posted.

Tuddels!
