Autumn

Misty morning, mulberry blush
Reckless riot of cascading leaves
Trees relax their summer grip
Burnished forests of yellow ochre.

Running water sparkles in the creek
Dark mossy banks green with lichen
Dappled oak trees russet honey
Lazy bees replete with pollen.

Redwood flames cavort in the hearth
Smoky mountains ablaze with light
Scorched orange maples carpet the earth
Sea skies heavy with approaching rain.

Sunshine muted, shadows hazy
Nature draws its patchwork curtain
Summer expanded, winter will contract
Autumn a rainbow bridge of colour.
