Good-bye

Written for the Daily Flash Fiction Challenge with a word limit of 300.

You Can't Stop Me This Time

"I'm going to find mom and you're not going to stop me this time."

The letter his mother had set on her silk covered bed the day she left was now in his hands. Ash had read it too many times since that day and was determined to undo what had been written. All the letter said was "Good-bye." She didn't say why she left or where she was going, but he knew why.

He knew because it was the same reason he had for leaving now. His father.

"I hate you!" She threw anything and everything she could grab from her dresser.
A small boy ran in, just barely missing a hair brush she had thrown.
"What are you doing to my mom?!"
"You stay out of this you little brat." There was no love in his father's voice.

Every night had been the same until she left. Now he was the one yelling at his father and throwing things, but they weren't small trinkets and hair brushes.

A small pouch rested on the side of his belt with four small daggers. The other side carried a sword. He wasn't going to take the abuse anymore. He was leaving and no one was going to stop him. Not this time.

He walked toward the front entrance of the house. Any other day someone would have stopped him, but not today. Everyone was running toward the other end of the house and a few of the maids were screaming for help. Ash wiped one of the bloody daggers on his shorts, even though a track of blood had already been made, and put it back in the pouch.

"Good-bye father..."
