A brief comment about managing a fantasy football team |
I know a good football player when I see one and sure any manager can do well with great players. I got a less than average draft this year in my public Yahoo Fantasy Football league. I was excited because this was going to be a challenge. The draft is an auto pick draft and I took who was given. I drafted Favre and Orton and an assortment of other players who currently make the news for one reason or another. But I can play these guys like a fiddle and message the lineup much like an Asian message parlor in Washington D.C. Week 1 comes along and my lineup plays like high school players. I start Favre and he plays like a rookie. I didn't start Orton which was good because he played like a backup high school quarterback. So I trade Orton for Sanchez. I'm thinking to myself what fools these other team managers are for leaving Sanchez undrafted after week 1. Week 2 is now here and I'm ready to start Sanchez. Then my managerial instincts kick in. In the eleventh hour I decide that Favre will have a lot better chance against Miami than Sanchez will have against the Patriots. So I make my move at 0300 while the other managers are sleeping and the media is off guard. There is a reason I only watch football and do not manage a team. At the end of week 2 I'm winless. Additionally, by the names of the two teams that I've challenged, I think the managers of those teams are women. |
