The block inside of my head
is harder than stone
Taller than the buildings gracing the streets downtown
And like them, those steel trees rooted in cement, my block
reflects the skies and sun and me
like a still lake in the mountains.
I see myself old and alone
with only a ragged beard and cold eyes for company
just the wind and cars whizzing behind me
while the sun cries on
