How I felt saying good by to my husband when he left for Afganastan
He held me in his strong arms and told me he would love me till the end of time
I stood there with tears in my eyes wishing he didn’t have to go
He lovingly stroked my face while he whispered sweet words of comfort in my ear
He said he loved me
He said if it was up to him he would never leave me
He said it was his duty and it was only for a year
He said I was strong
He said he had all the faith in the world that I would be able to carry on in his absence
I know what he said was true but it didn’t make it hurt any less

Don’t get me wrong I am proud of my man
I am proud of his duty and honor to his country
I am proud of the fact he fights so we may be free
I just wish his duty didn’t take him half way around the world
He is my husband, my lover, my best friend, and the father of my children
When he is gone the pain is almost unbearable

As we stand holding each other someone comes in and tells us he needs to go
I stop crying, take a deep breath, and put on a brave face for him
He doesn’t need to see my pain right now
He needs to know I will be strong while he is gone
He bends his head down to give me one last kiss before he goes
It is filled with the promise of his undying love and of his swift and safe return
We don’t say good-by
That would make it too final
We say see you soon
He turns and walks to join the group of men who are leaving with him
He pauses right before he gets to them, turns and shouts one last time........

I LOVE YOU!
