Returning home
I came back to a place no longer there
I looked and looked with unbroken stare
inside my heart yearned to see
but alas it just seems not to be

what upon reflection I came to find
was simple values from a different time
when simple folk lived in a state of grace
seemingly gone from this cold place

but people here no longer wish to hear
bury themselves in never ending beer
having only ever known nought but this place
having lost sight upon its fall from grace

generations born of greed blinded to a time of need
hard times now befall life to show
to teach them well, real things to know
simple respect from man to man, how to live upon the land

and as my time here draws to a close
I thank it for teaching all I know
hope this proud land can set itself free
and become again what it used to be
