Pencil IN

How would you like to be a pencil?
I'm not at all permanent
I can be erased and the
worst is that most pencils look alike.

Fourteen billion pencils are made each year.
enough to circle the globe sixty-two times.

Luckily, I belong to a poet who only
writes first drafts so,
it puts lead in my pencil and makes me feel
special to hear the words out loud.

Here is one he wrote about me:
"Don't think you're so great because
you're a number one." Too bad more people
don't take that to heart. That's the tip
that is the sharpest point I can make.
