Prison Without Walls

No bars that anyone could see,
Still held captive, alone in those dreams.

No corridors of polished rock, for us to walk upon.
To search for you, within your cell, your inner wall was just too strong.

No outer gate to climb, but the guards kept us at bay, no way to break you          
Out, all we could do is pray.

A verdict you pronounced upon yourself, a past you could not control.
The one who gave you life, could not see the beauty in your soul.
So who was left to blame but yourself, didn’t matter what we said.
Locked up tight, was the love inside. Innocence shattered by lies.

So here you stayed, locked away. Running on the inside, on the outside so brave.
Then cornered by what you could no longer hide, shackled on the outside, screaming
Inside.

And we would get too close, try to pry inside, but the guards once again, would have us trained in their sights.
And it would feel like being burned, when you turned away, your own silent screams you
Could not face.

What has hold of you, we do not know, but we will not let you fall,
We have hold of you on the other side, we are your strength, we are your guide.

Through all the pain and mistakes, you have started to take control.
These illusions no longer control you, you are one step closer to home.
We will not just hear your words, we will listen to what you say,
There’s a wonderful person inside you, let her out, you will be ok.

When you try to hide, the feelings inside, the more you are faced with the truth.
Alone is no place you want to be, its dark and cold, take it from me.

When you shed the skin of mistrust and shame, all the things that make you fall,
All you have to do, is trust once more in yourself,


Then walk right out of your prison without walls.
