He took a knee as he faced his defeat.
He knew he had lost, there was nothing left to fight for.
The world told him not today and his mind told him not ever.
He dreamed of being big, being on top of the world.
But the only thing he was on top of was his knees.
A toy soldier is what he was, he remained hollow and stiff,
Until being a man meant nothing any longer.
Tears fell from his eyes and his hands cradled his face.
Rain began to pour while his body shook.
Breath slipped through his lips, cold and dry.
The word that flooded his mind finally escaped through his mouth.
"Why?!" he cried
The wind let loose; hard and strong and the words:
"because you're strong" spit back twords him.
His tears stopped flowing and his hands fell to his side.
He took a deep breath as the clouds parted revealing a blue sky.
He looked at the path before him and the cracks seemed to close right in front of his eyes.
Within his chest, he could feel his heart slowly begin to heal.
He stood, took a step forward, never to look back again.
