I Wish

I lay my head
Down to rest.
Wishing you were by my side…
Pulling the covers over my head
And hoping my dreams come over me.

The dreams don’t come,
And I hear the pitter patter
Of rain on tin…
I find myself crying in time with the drops.
I wish you were here by my side,
To comfort me,
To hold me,
To tell me everything will be alright.

But you’re not here by my side telling me all those things.
You’re not here at all.
You’re not anywhere near me!
I don’t know where you are,
So I cry harder.

I wish you never let me go.
I wish we were still together.
But no!
We’re not,
We’re not.

I wish I could see your beautiful eyes,
Looking in through mine.
I wish I could feel your strong,
Broad arms,
Holding me close to your warm body.
I wish I could see you sleep in my bed
Right next to me…
I wish I had you again…
I miss you,
And I always will.

I will never forget the smell of your clothes.
I will never forget your laugh.
I will never forget how you held me
When I was mad and upset,
Even if it was at you…
I will never forget that one night.
The night when you told me,
You loved me with all your heart.
How could I forget that?
Never.

I notice the rain has stopped,
And so has my crying.
I just wish you were here by my side…
