Jonathon sets out on a journey to be the best
Waking up, I look around my room thinking, “this is the last time I will see my room in a long time.”
My Chimchar is the first thing I see, and I remind him, “Hey Chimchar, today is the day that we start our journey.”
Chimchar looked at me with anticipation and glee. He helped me gather my clothes and went down to let my mom know I was going downstairs in a bit.
Putting on my track pants and favourite shirt, I go downstairs and say hi to my mom. My mom had already put out breakfast and was looking a bit downcast. “I will be back to visit every now and then, and I will bring you back gifts from every town and city I go to” I tell her.
“I know you will, and I hope you do great on the gym challenge as well.”
I quickly finished my breakfast and was heading out the door until my mom suddenly called out my name and told me something important. “Oh yeah, a friend of mine called and said that one of your old friends will be joining you on your journey when you reach Oreburgh City.”
“Really? Do you know who it is?”
“Yes, her name is Martha. You should remember her, you two always played with each other.”
“I don’t remember her at all, but I guess having a friend travel with you is always better than going alone.”
Heading out the door, I grab my black and blue vest and cap with a pokeball symbol. I never like to put my Chimchar in a pokeball, because he was the first pokemon I got and he always loved to play out of his ball.
I’ve had Chimchar for about 3 years now, whenever I put him into the pokeball, he would let himself out, so after a while I decided to keep him out for good. Now walking along route 201, my Chimchar is happily running in front of me, having a ball of a time.
Then out of nowhere, he ran into a wild Starly. “Whoa. So that’s what a Starly looks like.” I whip out my pokedex and see what it says.
“Starly, the Starling pokemon, Starly flock in great numbers. They may be small, but they can flap their wings with great power.”
“Alright Chimchar, we have to catch this Starly. After these three years, you know I love flying pokemon as well as fire, and I know you two will be great friends, so let’s do this.”
“Char!” Chimchar said, with determination on his face. “Alright Chimchar, scratch.”
It’s a good thing I got a fast pokemon to start my journey, because Chimchar started off the attack first. Chimchar used his claws and scratched the Starly. “Watch out Chimchar, it’s coming around with a tackle attack.”
“Char!” Chimchar nodded and moved out of the way at just the right time. “Alright, now Chimchar, ember attack, finish it off!” Chimchar spewed out a few small fire balls and knocked out the Starly.
“Now, go! Pokeball!” I yell as I throw the red object. Starly became engulfed in the red glow of the ball’s energy. The ball started to shake, and after a few seconds, it stopped and I knew that I had caught the Starly.
“Alright! I caught a Starly!”
“Chimchar chim!”
“C’mon out Starly!”
The Starling pokemon came back out of its pokeball in the same red glow that put it in there.
“Meet your new friend Chimchar.”
“Chimchar chim.” said Chimchar happily.
“Starly?” said Starly.
“Chimchar, chim, Chimchar.” Chimchar explained to Starly
“Hey Starly, welcome to our growing family.” I told Starly.
“Starly starly!” Starly said happily. Starly flew onto my shoulder and Chimchar kept walking by my feet.
“Alright, let’s head to Jubilife City!”
Walking through the forest, I come to realise why they make paths. Walking along with me is just Chimchar now because Starly couldn’t fly through the thick brush of the forest.
“I’m sorry I got you tangled in this mess Chimchar, I thought the forest would be a great shortcut to Jublife City.” I tell Chimchar.
“Chimchar chim.” Chimchar responds reassuringly.
“Hey wait, listen. Do you hear running water Chimchar?”
“Chim?”
“Let’s go over this way!” I tell to Chimchar, starting to run towards the sound of water.
Pretty soon, we hit a river and followed it downstream. As soon as we got to a lake, both Chimchar and I noticed a pokemon gliding over the water’s surface. “Hey Chimchar, do you know who that pokemon is?”
“Chimchar?” said Chimchar puzzled.
“O.k., let’s see here.” I say, whipping out my Pokedex.
“Mesprit, the Emotion pokemon. Mesprit sleeps at the bottom of Lake Verity. It taught humans nobility, sorrow, pain and joy.”
“Hey, I heard about that pokemon, it must be one of the legendary Lake Trio pokemon of Sinnoh. But, what is it doing out here? I thought it was asleep at the lake.”
“Chimchar!”
“Well Chimchar, we should be on our way if we want to reach Oreburgh in time to meet with our friend!”
Walking along the water’s edge, me and Chimchar start to head back into the forest. Just as we see the last of the lake, we hear a rustling just ahead of us. Quietly, we sneak up and see a Noctowl.
“Hey Chimchar, you think you’re up to trying to catch it?”
“Chimchar.” the little Chimp pokemon nodded in determination.
We got a little bit closer to it and then “Ember!”
Chimchar spat out a few embers from his mouth and hit the Noctowl perfectly. The Owl pokemon took flight. “Oh no you don’t, Chimchar Fury Swipes!”
Chimchar started to scratch Noctowl furiously.
“Alright, now go, pokeball!” The red beam comes out and covers Noctowl and sucks it into the ball. A few shakes later and the ball stops shaking and the Noctowl stays in the pokeball
“Alright! I caught myself a Noctowl” I yell triumphantly.
“Chimchar chim!” yells Chimchar as well.
“O.k., c’mon out Noctowl. Meet your ever growing family.” I say while throwing the pokeball into the air.
Noctowl comes out of the ball in the red energy that captured it. Noctowl appeared more off to the side then I thought it would.
“Noctowl, this is Chimchar.”
“Noctowl.” Noctowl said as if it was bored.
“Hey, whats your problem Noctowl?”
“Chimchar!” Chimchar tried to explain to Noctowl.
“Its o.k. Chimchar, he’ll come to his senses soon. He just needs some time ya know,” I explained to Chimchar.
“Alright, return Noctowl.”
Noctowl was engulfed in the energy of the pokeball and returned to it. “Alright, let’s try to head back to a path and head towards Jubilife city.” I told Chimchar while heading deeper into the forest.
“Hey Chimchar, look! It’s Jubilife City!” I yell as I start running towards the big city.
“Char!” Chimchar yelled enthusiastically.
I slowed to a walk once I reached the outer edges of the city, Chimchar did the same while looking around at all the tall buildings.
“Hey Chimchar, let’s check our map and see where we should head to in Jubilife.” I said, starting to rummage through my bag.
“Uh-oh. I don’t think I brought a map with me.”
“Chimchar chim.” said Chimchar a bit disappointed.
“Well, I guess we should just walk around and look for great spots.”
Walking around the city blocks, I notice that a few of the billboards advertising a thing called the Poketch. “Hey Chimchar, you think I should get a Poketch? Hopefully i can remember some stuff to get with that Poketch.”
“Chimchar.” Chimchar agreed.
After a couple hours of walking around the big city, I decide to take a break for a drink. I notice a Poochyena walking through the tables of the restaurant.
“Hey Chimchar, look at that, it’s a Poochyena!” I say, whipping out my pokedex.
“Poochyena, the Bite pokemon. Poochyena will bite anything that moves. It will chase after its prey until it is exhausted, but if the prey strikes back, Poochyena will turn tail.”
“Yena! Where are you?” yelled out a female voice. The voice came closer while the Poochyena headed towards me.
“Hey, what are you doing?” I asked anxiously.
“Yena! Oh, there you are!”
“Is this your Poochyena?” I asked the girl.
“Yes, this is my Yena. Oh hey, you have a Chimchar, then you must be Jonathon!” she said excitedly.
“H-how do you know my name?” I asked her.
“Because, I’m your new travelling partner!”
“W-wait, you’re Martha? But I’m supposed to meet you in Oreburgh!”
“Thanks for the warm welcome. And yes, we were supposed to meet in Oreburgh, but, by chance, we found each other in Jubilife.” She explained to me.
“Oh, I see. So, are you doing the gym challenge as well?”
“Well, yes actually. I decided I wanted to take the gym challenge because all my family took it and got to the elite four, but they all lost at the four. So I want to take it further and get to the champion, for my family!”
“Oh really?” I said slyly. “That’s gonna be hard because I’m gonna defeat the champion. So you’re going to have to face me!”
