                             -DiamondAce

Her vision cleared. She glanced around, her eyes widening as she realized she didn’t know where she was. She tried to move; her limbs were bound at the ankles and wrists by shackles of some sort of metal.

“Ah, you have awakened, my little one”

A voice came out of the darkness around her. She squeaked involuntarily in scared surprise she said nothing, not moving, in futile hopes the voice would go away.

“You can not fool me girl, I heard and saw you move. It’s too late, I know you’re awake, and now you are MINE!”

The voice thundered throughout the chamber where she lay chained to the hard wooden slab. She flinched, sucking in a quick breath and then crying out in pain shortly there after when she realized she had metal rods stuck through her abdomen.

“Wher- Where the hell am I?”

She struggled to breathe through her chest so as not to move her stomach area.

“Where you are matters not, all that matters is that you have one objective get yourself out of here, ALIVE.”

She felt the shackles drop off her wrists and ankles, bringing her hands up to rub her wrists gingerly before carefully feeling at the rods in her abdomen. The girl wrapped her hands around one and pulled it upward and slowly out of her stomach, trying not to scream as she realized there were very fine razor like barbs that lined the length of it. The blood oozed forth from the lacerations in her hands, dripping and mingling with that which ran from her stomach as she drew forth the other rods tossing them to the side. She sat up her dark hair, matted with sweat, fell into her face. She brought one bloodied hand up to run through it pulling it back and out of her face, mixing blood with the sweat. She looked down at her abdomen, there had been 60 rods in her stomach, inserted into a pattern, creating the 666 across her abdomen; she stood remaining on her feet only by the remainder of her strength clutching at her still bleeding stomach as the blood oozed forward relentlessly to pool upon the floor in a sticky crimson pool. Wincing in pain as and looked around, her eyes having adjusted to the darkness. She was in a chamber with a high ceiling at one end stood a door. Other than that it was empty and windowless the only thing there was the table, and her bleeding form. She staggered towards the door her eyes hardening as her body went numb from the pain. By the time she reached the door she was so tired that she merely wanted to collapse and sleep. But the memories of the voice kept her going, as she pulled open the heavy wooden door. Beyond the door was a dark hallway that seemed to go on forever. She moved through the door leaving it open behind her and stood just on the other side, nearly falling on her face in shock as the door behind her slammed shut, a deadbolt sound came from within the chamber she had just left.

“Where do you go from here, little one? There are no doors, no windows, only two openings, one leads out, the other leads to death, now which way you will go”

The hallway shrank towards her, shrinking into one small room she screamed and fell to the ground as she thought surely she would get crushed. She looked up shakily as she realized it had stopped moving. She stood clutching her still bleeding stomach as she looked at the doors. One was black, the other was white, now her heart said go through the white door it would lead out, but logic told her no, that was too easy go for the black one. She stepped forward and grabbed the handle on the black door opening it and cringing as light poured out stinging her enlarged pupils. She waited for her eyes to adjust and then looked in, she found a white hospital room, there was a girl seated on the bed with dark hair that fell, covering her face. She was clad in a white hospital gown, and as the girl watched, a doctor entered the room and took a clipboard off the wall, he checked it over and then smiled at the girl on the bed. He said something to her that the girl at the door couldn’t hear, and then placed the clipboard back on the wall and exited through the large metal door that he had entered through to begin with. The girl at the door moved forward towards the girl on the bed she stopped and cleared her throat her voice, harsh and cracked from lack of water and use, it issued forth.

“h-hey, can you tell me where I am?”

The girl on the bed looked up, and the other girl blinked she was looking at herself, and as that fact registered everything went white for a second. When her ability to see returned she realized she was looking forward from a sitting position. Her hair was clean and not caked with blood or sweat and she was clad in a white cotton night gown, and the wounds in her stomach were gone, her feet were bare.

         “Huh? Where am I?”

She spoke into the silence, then remembering that there had been another girl, one that looked just like herself, but now she was that girl, had she been dreaming, dreaming about the terrifying voice that had told her she would die if she did not go to the right door she would die? Yes she must have been dreaming. She lay back on the bed and curled up under the white cotton blanket and closed her eyes attempting to sleep.

“Did you think you would escape me that easily? You have chosen the black door and so have entered the white room, now you must escape this asylum, escape or you shall be euthanized.”

She sat up, cold sweat beading on her forehead as she glanced wildly around the room she was still in the white padded room she had been in before. The door to the chamber opened.

         “Did you sleep well?”

The doctor in the white lab coat took the clipboard off the wall he flipped through the pages and then looked at her again

“I see today you get to go out for a while, you get to go to the store and you can buy something with the money you have earned while staying here.”

He motioned out the door and nurse came forward with a pair of light blue pants and a white tank top and some toiletry articles as well.

“Here you can shower and change and then board the van with the others.”

She took the cloths and headed off for the showers she showered and changed her pulled her dark hair back into a high pony tail leaving her vivid emerald eyes in plain view through a few long strands that fell into her face. She boarded the 12 seater van which held two kids per seat. She sat next to another girl also clad in blue pants and a white shirt the van started and headed out of the building from whence they had come. The van rumbled out of the circular drive and down the long tree lined drive way once it was out of the drive way it took a right turn and kept to this direction till it came to a street named Elf Wood Dr. The girl watched each sign they past memorizing them and what way they turned, eventually they turned into the parking lot of a Wal-Mart on the corner of 31st and 32nd street, they got out and walked into the store in the group there where two adults, and six kids, three boys and three girls. The entered the store and the adults divided them up into groups of three, boys in one and girls in the other. The boys headed off for the sports section the girls headed off for the craft area. Two of the girls got plastic canvas kits and such like that, she looked around before heading into the art supply section she grabbed a sketch pad and a set of sketching pencils an eraser pen and a watercolor portfolio and some high grade horse hair brushes. She then headed for the clothing section she grabbed a pair of blue jeans and a black tank top, and an arm band that she could put over her right wrist where she noticed a number tattooed on the back of it 666 the sign of the devil she shook her head as she paid for the items she saw that the others from the van were no where around she stepped into the restroom and changed her cloths dropping her white and light blue clothes in the trash can and then slipping the wrist band over her right wrist and headed out. She took her hair down and headed out the doors and onto the street.

I made it all the way out of the store and across the parking lot before my uncertainty kicked in. I had no memory of where I was, I didn’t even know who I was, the only thing that kept me going was that voice that old me if I didn’t go I would die, and I didn’t know where I had to go, all I knew was I had to escape. I headed out onto the street and looked around probing my non-existent memory for some sign of where I was and where home was. I blinked suddenly knowing where I was and home was to my left, the opposite of the way I had come. I walked off, my bag of art supplies over my arm I got down the end of 31st street I stopped and looked at the street signs, turning left onto apple barn Drive, and then turning right onto wheel throw circle. Coming to a large three story house with a three car garage and spacious estates I went up to the gate and flipped up the key pad, and typed in the code that I suddenly remembered. The large gates swung open and I dashed up the drive and in through the large front door and stopping dead in the middle of the foyer startling two maids and a butler

“Mistress, what are you doing here? I thought you were at that camp up in the mountains. . .”

The butler’s voice seemed puzzled and perplexed as he asked me this.

“Ah, yes, camp I didn’t like it so I came home early where are my parents?”

She butler frowned

“Your parents are not here young mistress, your father is at work and your mother is at a lady’s luncheon. She will be home in an hour, shall we have your suit unlocked and aired out mistress?”

I nodded and headed up the stairs to m rooms I entered them and smiled looking around, I had dark purple satin walls and like decorations. I sighed as I threw myself upon the round four poster bed in the middle of my room I made it! I made it out alive!

The door to my rooms opened and I blinked looking around I guess I had fallen asleep and I looked up to see my mother enter the room.

“My daughter, they have released you from the compound? Why was I not unformed of this?”

I blinked,

“Released? You mean from the hospital? No I, I ran away, I couldn’t take it anymore, I needed to get out!’

“But honey you were admitted after the suicide attempt that put you in a comatose state fro two weeks, when you cam to you couldn’t remember anything, how did you find your way home?”

I shrugged I figured I wouldn’t mention the voice I had heard or she might send me back

“I just found my way home that’s all. . .”

The phone rang and my mother stepped out to answer it I heard her half of the conversation from my spot on my bed.

“Yes this is her. . . . No, no she’s here she’s fine. . . . Yes I know she ran away . . . . .  no, I’ll keep her here unless you hear otherwise, yes thank you, thank you very much…”

Mother reentered and sighed exasperated.

“How could you do that to me? And with the big social coming up I need to be rested and unstressed.”

She stopped looking at me as I listened with apathy and a bored expression

“Ah, you always were an ungrateful child I need to go to the spa, and try to get rid of the gray hairs you’ve given me!”

With that she left me lying there on the bed and swept out of the room her feathers and beading flowing after her. I curled up on the bed glad to be out of that hospital and alive.

“you think you have escaped me, well you may have for now so I will leave you be till I grow bored of being smothered once again and then, then we shall accomplish what we failed to do last time, next time we will succeed in ending our life, Muriel.”

I drifted off to sleep the voice that I had been hearing was there and I knew it but for now it was dormant and so I would ignore it.
