A single knock

A single knock came from the front door.
Maria wondered who it could be at this time of day.
As she walked to the door her 5 year old daughter, Sally, followed behind her curious to who was at the door.
As Maria turned the knob the door was kicked in knocking her down.
A towering man in a long coat pushed his way in.
Maria screamed as she saw the large hunting knife in his hand.
She tried to crawl away, yelling at Sally to run.
The man stomped on her back, knocking the wind from her.
He then stepped over Maria and towards Sally, who stood staring at the stranger.
A smile crossed his face and he licked his lips as he raised his knife.
