Chapter 69 May 19, 2012 – McMurdo Station - Antarctica “Done,” Megan said with a flourish, pushing her chair back from the computer console. Beartalker looked at her, not clear as to what she had done but the satisfied look on her face gave him confidence. “Will it work?” “I sent a copy to every scientist on the planet,” Megan replied, and one to every newspaper with a circulation of over fifty thousand.” “And the one to the President?” “Delivered!” Beartalker sat back in his chair and scanned the hard copy of the message that Megan had distributed. In essence, it was a blackmail letter demanding the release of the families of the Special Forces Team members and cooperation in stopping the Nazi plan. Megan named each individual member of The Brotherhood, worldwide, described their goal to take over the world and gave a full and comprehensive report on everything they knew up to that point. She included the Nazis and their role in the Earth Crust Displacement, the Arianni, and how The Brotherhood was behind the cover-up and the assassination attempt on Jesus. She noted at the end of the message to the President, a message that would be delivered to other members of The Brotherhood, that in the event of her death, or a strike on McMurdo Station, the code that had been assigned to the messages sent out worldwide, would immediately become public. So long as she lived, and The Brotherhood cooperated, the message could not be released. “You’re giving them a break.” Beartalker glanced back up at Megan. “You have them by the balls and you should squeeze.” “My economics friends are right,” Megan sighed. “To disclose The Brotherhood’s existence and goal at this time will create a worldwide crisis. No one would trust their leaders. It would be a crisis we cannot afford if we hope to unite the world to overcome the Nazis.” “The scumbags still shouldn’t get away with it.” “If their assassination plan fails, their only fallback will be to cooperate with us. After all, it’s their world too. I think they will bust their butts to make things right.” The door to the computer room flew open and one of Beartalker’s men rushed in. “A flying saucer has landed in front of the building!” he yelled. Beartalker and Megan glanced at each other, then both tried to make it to the door first. By the time they got to one of the few windows available, they were jammed with rubber neckers fighting for a glimpse outdoors. Megan grabbed a parka from a rack on the wall and headed for the nearest exit. Beartalker followed her, trying to pull on another parka that was too small to fit his bulky frame. As soon as they emerged from the building they spotted an object sitting about fifty yards away that resembled the classic Hollywood flying saucer design. A squad of Air Force Security personnel were standing near the disk shaped object with their sidearms drawn, pointing towards it. Beartalker’s second in command, Lieutenant Brian Rhoy, ran up with the remainder of the Team close behind him. “Should we backup the Air Police sir?” Beartalker nodded at Megan. “She’s our primary mission. If little green men rush out and try to kidnap her, then you will react. Until then, I want a three sixty around her.” Despite freezing her butt off, Megan was mesmerized by the scene. “Just like, “The Day the Earth Stood Still,” she whispered to Beartalker, describing a classic science fiction movie. One of her little secrets was that she loved old science fiction movies, a weakness she did want her scientific peers to get wind of. A few moments later a ramp opened in the side of the craft and quietly lowered to the snow. “Klaatu barada nikto,” Megan muttered, unaware that Beartalker heard her. “Klaatu what?” He asked. Megan smiled. “It’s a phrase from the movie. Klaatu was the alien who landed on earth. He was killed and his robot, Gort, brought him back to life.” Beartalker rolled his eyes and refocused on the lowered ramp. Movement on the ramp brought the Air Police to agitated alert. Two men, dressed in unusual uniforms, slowly walked down the ramp immediately followed by an attractive young woman. The woman was holding a pistol on the men and behind her was another young woman in a uniform similar to that worn by the two men. They walked to the end of the ramp and halted. “My name is Daria Wolff and I am a citizen of Germany,” the woman yelled. Her English was rough but understandable. “I was kidnapped by the Nazis and managed to escape. The woman behind me is under my protection. I am also the fiancĂ© of Doctor Monday Stiehl who has also been abducted. I ask for your help.” “Holy Cow,” Megan blurted. Beartalker reacted immediately. “Secure those two men!” he ordered the Air Police. Motioning for his Team to follow him, he walked out to the air ship. Megan started to follow but he signaled her to remain where she was. “I am Lieutenant Beartalker, United States Navy,” he said to Daria who was still standing on the ramp. She was shivering from the cold. “I am a friend of Megan MacKenzy, the scientist you contacted. Will you come with me?” Daria let out a whoosh of air and dropped the heavy pistol to the ramp. She motioned for Marta to follow her. Beartalker took off his too-small coat and wrapped it around her and they headed for the warmth of the building. Daria wrapped her hands around the hot mug of coffee. She was still shaking, but not from the cold. Her nerves were near the breaking point. She was never certain whether or not her plan would work, and hours of tension had taken its toll on her. She felt relieved to see the face of Megan, another female she could identify with. The huge bear of a man sitting next to Megan reminded her of Henri, big, jovial, full of genuine concern and empathy. “General Jones is sending someone down to talk with you,” Beartalker stated. “He’s the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. He and the rest of Special Operations Command know all about the Nazis and The Brotherhood and they are working to get something going.” “What about your president and other world leaders, your Army, Air Force?” Daria asked. “I’m afraid our president and many high ranking members of congress are aligned with The Brotherhood,” Beartalker shook his head and glanced at Megan. “Megan sent a message to scientist around the world, and to the world press, but we don’t want to use it until or unless absolutely necessary.” “Message from General Jones,” Sparks interrupted, handing a tearsheet to Beartalker. Beartalker took the message and slowly read it. He read it again to make certain he fully understood it. “General Jones has deployed all Airborne, Ranger and Special Forces units.” He stated. “Everyone in Special Operations Command has been ordered to McMurdo Station, including all SEAL Teams. Special Forces units from Great Britain, France, Germany and Australia have also decided to assist in the operation.” “That’s wonderful,” Daria stated, wondering why Beartalker was not overjoyed. “Isn’t it?” “They are deploying against the orders of the President of the United States, and their allied governments,” Beartalker replied. “The President and other world leaders involved have ordered their conventional military forces to stop them by any means.” “You mean shoot down their own men?” Megan looked at Beartalker as if he had suddenly gone crazy. “Special Operations Forces against Conventional Forces. What a nightmare,” Lieutenant Rhoy exclaimed. “I guess the General is backing down.’ “His reply to the President was, up yours…” Beartalker answered. “Incoming message,” Sparks yelled again, tearing another sheet of paper from his communications machine and handing it to Beartalker. Beartalker reached for it and read it with trepidation. “There are half a dozen alien air ships on station over McMurdo right now,” He said. “They are demanding the return of their airship, the pilots, and, I can’t understand the last demand, the return of Hitler’s granddaughter, or, they will destroy the station and everyone in it.’ Daria’s face turned white and she took a deep breath. “That’s me,” she whispered. “I’m Hitler’s granddaughter.” “Jesus, Joseph and Ralph!” Megan blurted. |
