For Dominick Calhoun, 4, who died of abuse by his mother's boyfriend and her neglect.
1-9-12
Brandon Hayes found guilty of all 10 counts. Besides first-degree murder, was found guilty of torture, first-degree child abuse, premeditated murder, assault with intent to do great bodily harm, distribution/manufacture of marijuana and possession of a controlled substance. There is some justice in this world. He will serve life in prison; no chance of parole.

For a grand-nephew of ours.....

A life yet left un-lived,
a bud that shall never flower,
a question left unasked,
sixty minutes short of an hour.

A child who'll never grow
to the man he was meant to be,
laughter forever silenced
except in memory.

A four year old forever more--
precious child denied his youth.
For him and others like him
We seek a different truth.

A child is a gift from God,
to be treasured and protected
not left to those who selfishly
let a child's cry go neglected.

Dominick's smile a star shall be-
in the heavens far above
his lesson to us all shall be
simply: treat a child with love.

To care for them above ourselves;
never abuse or hurt them.
For children are our answers-
each one a priceless gem.

Child, you will be remembered,
with sadness, yes, and joys
for Dominick will be a hero
to generations of girls and boys.
