A story about young warrior whom have left his wife a home to fight for justice and peave. |
The field was full of cries, the cries of a men. From far, cry of a baby could be heard. A sky full of stars, sparkling with life, some are less, some are more. The field full of sparks, as one weapon clashes with another. As one cry is silenced, one star of the sky disappears. However a new star appears, as one to-become-mother cry out loud and a baby cries out. Today was another bloody day, just like the others were and next ones to come, will be. At the end of the march I sat down under a tree, next to a friend of mine. “Hey, Yuuta, you still have some?” “Yeah, I think I still have few of them left...Actually, this is the last one.” “Darn, I guess you want to keep it for times of need, right?” “Well, if you can't endure it, then I don't mind, since you have given yours to the children” “Thank you, I owe you, mate.” As he was chewing away my ration, I could feel my saliva climbing up the throat, I am hungry afterall. Shun is one of my best friends in arms and vice-captain of this squad. He is one of the fastest thinkers and warriors I have ever met. We have been fighting in the same squad for nine months and were trained at the same dojo. We have lived through hundreds ambushes, successfully completing life risking missions. We have survived til a point, as marched on, toward a may-be-last mission. The mission which may decide whether this war ends or continues. The end of this all. Most of us hope to go back to our old lives. However so many lives and villages have been ravaged, I highly doubt that everything will be as it used to be though. Instead of going into our old peaceful lives, it will be lives of rebuilding. The white moon in the dark sky is distant as always, it made me think about Yuuki. I still clearly remember the days before I left. We were newly wed only for two days when the rebellions began. Everyone, who had finished training, was immediately called to main headquarters. Each of us was assigned to a certain regiment, where we would meet our captain and the squad. As soon as I received the paper with my region, I went home to tell Yuuki where I have been assigned to. At first she was sad and disappointed, because we had spent so little time together, but she understood my duties. The next day I left my home as soon as the sun came out. Yuuki was still sleeping, seeing her beautiful peacefully sleeping face, my heart jumped up. I knew not how long I would be away. “Yuuta! What is that look on your face? You are thinking about your Yuuki-chan, aren't you?” “What you saying, Shun? No, I'm just tired. Running the whole day like this makes you tired.” “You are blushing, mate. So how much time did you spend together? Did you try your best?” “I told you, I wasn’t thinking about her,” my eyes glanced somewhere else and I turned my face away “I am just...” “We know that you are a bad liar. When you lie, you always glance away with your eyes.” “No I don't.” “Yes, you do.” “Shun, stop teasing him. You and Yuuta are the best warriors we have here and we don't want to lose either one of you guys here just because of some stupid joke. Yuuta, I do, have to admit that you are one of the best warriors, but when it comes to hiding your emotions, you are no good.” “Even you, captain?” Shun and Captain Komamura laughed, so did the others that were listening. “Everyone get some rest for tomorrow, each of us will patrol for one hour then someone else will switch. As for tomorrow, I know we will be able to pull it off and win. Strong mind, strong resolve, strong body.” “Yes!”everyone shouted , without knowing what might happen tomorrow. For the last time in the night I looked up at the sky, seeing my wife’s face, and closed my eyes. One year has passed since you left. I was hoping you would come and see your baby. He looks just like you, his father so much it makes me cry. Since I have been waiting for you and yet I can’t show you your son. Everyday I have been standing outside and waiting for your arrival. Dreaming of you running to me, caressing me and the baby too. The war had already ended, yet you have yet to return. Where are you, Yuuta-sama? |
