This is chapter 26 in this book. I'm posting it just so people can see a bit of my work. |
Bring it on. I thought. They circled me. Big men dressed in all black, carrying M-16‘s. Their mission- to kill me. I stood still, any sign of movement would make them pull the trigger. From what I could see, there were about ten men in front of me, ten men behind. Twenty to one. Fair fight. Then the biggest guy of all stepped right in front of me, forcing me to look up at his big, ugly face. “Artemis Falcon.” He said. I glared up at him. I wasn’t going to talk. Nope, they were going to have to make me. “You go with us agreeably, we don’t kill you. You put up a fight, and we kill you. You, and your little friend.” Before I could stop myself, I looked a little to my right. Crap. Just enough to let them know that I was curious. Big and Ugly grinned. “Bring out the boy,” he said. My heart stopped and my brain went fuzzy. I couldn’t think. All I could see was him standing there. Gavin. My best friend, my partner. We’d been through so much together. He looked calm, nodded at me, and put his right arm up to his heart, crossing his fingers. I nodded, telling him I understood. “Take me to your leader, earthling,” I said, my voice sounding perfectly normal, and Gavin rolled his eyes and grinned. Big and Ugly scowled. “Let’s get this vermin out of here. Boss’ll know what to do with her.” They started walking out of the abandoned warehouse Gavin and I were hiding in. My hands were chained to Gavin’s. These are the stupidest group of bad guys I’ve ever met. Glancing at both guys standing next to us, I pulled my hands closer to my chest and slipped my fingers into my coat, pulling them back out to reveal a laser. Gavin nodded again, taking the laser from me. As soon as we had the hand-cuffs off, we both karate chopped the guys next to us in their neck. They fell over with a thump. All eighteen guys ahead of us whirled around to find… nothing. Gavin and I waited at the roof of the warehouse, waiting for the right moment. I yanked up the rope that had pulled us to safety. Both Gavin and I knew what to do. We Tarzan-and-Jane’d our way to the floor, swinging down on our rope. Things were about to get ugly. It went into battle-mode. Drop kick to the stomach, knife hand to the neck, roundhouse to the knee. We dropped these thugs like flies. Another punch to the nose, heel to a knee, cracking the knee-cap. I swear I thought I saw Gavin kill somebody, but it could’ve been my own imagination. Soon, all twenty thugs were on the ground, injured severely if not killed. Our job was done. We headed to the door for a get-away when something hit my back, making me fall. I was paralyzed. I couldn’t move. “Hello, Artemis. Long time, no see. I’ve missed you, baby,” said a voice so familiar I almost cried out. “You,” was all I could muster. I was hurt, both physically and emotionally. I couldn’t trust myself to say anything. “Yes, it’s me. And wow, I didn’t know it was possible. You’ve gotten even more beautiful since the last time I saw you,” he circled Deacon and me. I wanted to cry but bit my tongue. No way was I going to cry. “Look at me,” my body turned around. I almost did cry then. I was looking into the eyes of Deacon Ryder. I hated him. He hated me. We were arch-enemies. We tried to kill each other everyday. I’ve killed his friends, he’s killed mine. We’ll never trust each other, never be alleys. And I’m in love with him. The worst part? He’s in love with me. |
