looking back on what once appeared as love
Who gave you that smile?
the one that changed it all
on a morning in September
when I began to fall

Who gave you those eyes?
they peered into my soul
and kept me warm the way they danced
they made me risk it all

Who gave you those hands?
they touched just like a song
and for the time they spent in mine
to them I did belong

Who gave you that rope?
the one you tied around my heart
and silly me, I thought it meant
we'd never be apart

Who let you carry chains?
the ones you closed around my feet
and every time I tried to move
brave footsteps became weak

Who let you carry knives?
with a grip so firm and steady
and all at once you pierced my chest
you never asked if I was ready

Who let you carry poison?
in a bottle black and cold
the one you seeped into my veins
and my young heart became old

....

Who let you keep that smile?
the one you still carry today
the one that haunts me should it ever
turn again my way
