A place of failure

have been here before
I recognise
The dark rocks
with light
shining between them.

I stand
in my own footprints
this is
a place of failure for me

any moment now
you
will come here
and push me
with your hands
and I shall stagger home

I will have to go down
on my hands
and my knees
Half in repentence
and half to find something
you have lost

here you come now
getting nearer.
I bend down
and pick up a large rock.

and you are lost in the glare
melting
in the heat of the light
