Life Past Today Even the most determined of soldiers Will put sown his gun And let peace conquer violence Every once in a while Even the hardest of criminals Will sit back in his chains And let peace save from violence Every once in a while Even the worst of ‘frenimeis’ Will put aside their differences To help a friend in need Every once in a while And still human beings are killing each other One by one We are ridding the world Of it’s inventors, it’s creators, innovators, deciders, and authors Of it’s future politicians, lawyers, and doctors We just sit by and listen As the violence continues It’s unhindered and ugly path Determined to devour our species At last Our breath fogs the glass As we watch wide eyed As wars tear apart our world And leave scars in the places Of young boys and girls We watch wide eyed As our sons and daughters Give their lives As food and water Can’t reach the deprived As judgment and discrimination Become ever more popular in our over-populous nations Oh, we watch wide eyed As wealth stays with the wealthy As health stays with the healthy As people leave their houses to burn Because they never learned To save for a time When the tables turned Oh, and the tables have turned They’ve turned their backs on us Because we lack trust And we lack funds While the upper class has trust funds That could feed entire nations And give children their educations And oh, our relationships run dry As we all try to hide What we’re feeling inside Because all of our lives We’ve been taught Not math, no not history But how to live life Scott free We’ve been taught To make do with what we’ve got Then to make more Much more than we need, And not use it to feed. To feed the starving mouths The starving brains The starving pains. But no we use it to give ourselves more Of what we don’t need And so we just sit back As our berth fogs the glass And leaves scars. We stare wide eyed, As our relationships run dry, Because we’ve been hiding all of our lives Hiding from the starving, the illiterate The overly rich, the discriminates From the children, those children So hungry So I say Let us stop hiding Let’s give them what they need A chance, a say A life past Today |
