A scene in the moment of an affair.
"I'll Be Home For Christmas, and Forced Out by New Year..."

Word Count: 234

Bare feet clap noiselessly on icy stone,

old doors click softly into place,

Rushed hands wave coherently through the thick curtain of darkness,

reaching for the gate to unfaithfulness.

The rough material which clung to you was not much needed,

Tossed into the laundry, though my belongings were alienated.

We toss and we turn connected as one,

Shh, don't wake the innocent....

Your spine splashes waves of chills down your back,

your grip tightens on mine, your lips freeze in place,

Your stomach lurches with guilt...

but the forgotten butterflies come to your rescue.

Whispers of a secret love fill your heart and soul

but what drains your happiness is the time...

You pull me down and my eyes swallow your news wordlessly,

I understand but I don't want to...

Tiny footsteps steady themselves dizzily after hopping out of a high bed, but it wasn't yours...

I look at you, sadness drowning me from reality,

A gentle shove and I was gone in a flash,

The bed, although unmade, seemed as if we weren't even there.

And, Tabitha...my dear wife, for now... when I return home from my prolonged jog in darkness,

that of which I stated my destination as a store to roam and shop for Christmas...for you...

I didn't lie, I'm coming home with a gift....and well,

Tonight will be a nightmare that I wrapped up just for you....
