A poem of a father not wanting a child, but a another loving that child as his own.
You weren’t there

A ghost that lived far away

A shadow that grew in the light of day

A moment that lasted to long

The chorus of a favorite song

You’ve forgotten me

My eyes, my smile

The color of my hair

The laughter for you

That you couldn’t share

I built a bridge for you to bring you back

You tore it down without looking back

My tears are worthless in your eyes

You’ll leave anyway without any goodbyes

Years will pass, I see you again

And you’ll be just the shell of a man

Time has gone, no second chances are given

Regrets are yours

I won’t wait until you decide to knock on my door

I’m crazy; I must be to let you hurt me again

Even the hurt of a child is worse than any sin

No Father, don’t feel the guilt

I’m sorry I’m yours

But my life is not a sorrow

I don’t love you, I cry for the lost

A man who loved me as his

Is gone from this earth

His time taken, my heart broken

O’ Father, a Daddy he was

Your loss, his gain

His death, my pain

I don’t remember you, as much as you like

You’re just a passing hour in my night

I forgave you a time ago

So please don’t try to make me yours

O’ Father, I loved you, but no more

I haven’t loved you since I was four.
