From a leaf's perspective.
Meant to Fly Free

I awoke to the warm caress of spring,

entwined with winter’s fading icy pinch.

I watch in despair as blue swallows sing,

whilst a breeze must blow to stir me an inch.

“One day,” I pondered, “I, too, will fly free.

Vast blue heavens are a sight meant for me.”

So I wrench’d and tore and tried to deny

that small stems could hinder great dreams to fly.

I watch with envy as other leaves fall.

A sudden autumn wind severs my side.

Colours danced ‘round me like gowns at a ball.

The world burst b’fore me. “I’m flying!” I cried.

This was the day that I learned how to fly

t’ween blankets of blue; the sea and the sky.
