Winter at a glance
I  looked out my window today and saw that my street changed overnight.  The clean lines of black top trimed with cement has become a  snowy path of scattered stones, morsels of dirt, salt and sand. The only green to be seen is the withered Christmas tree which was discarded three days ago.  There are no flowers  .There is no sweet music of birds.  All that swoops down occasionally is  a solitary  chicken hawk or a lonely black crow.

Ice has carpeted my front path to the door and has taken over my driveway.  The air is crisp but where is the sweet nectar of sunlight that used to warm my face in the morning.  Winter has settled in and Spring seems to be on vacation.  I

I would take my little dog out for a walk, but he can only last a few minutes then his paws get all ice and snow stuck in them and he starts to limp.  I can take my daily walk but I spend more time trying not to fall than I do walking.

My garden is completely aglow with frosty glistning ice and little mounds of snow.  There is no color any longer ,there is no sweet smell, or dancing butterflys to excite my senses.  All there is is snow.

I sit in my window looking out and try to think of something good about this temporary condition.  I am sure there are many scientific things that happen to benefit the land when it snows, but it does not make living with it any easier.  If it were not for my love  of reading or my passion for writing, I think I would I would loose my mind from sheer bordom.

I will continue to think all the good thoughts I can muster up for the next three months.  I will use what memory I can find to remember the joy of  the past.  I will try to escape from my home as often as the street conditions will allow.  I will probably gain five pounds if I do not get busy and exercise to compensate for not walking.  When Spring rears her pretty little head I will be the first to rejoice her excellent timing for I am sure that I will be borderline commitable by that wonderous day.  I shall slip on a pair of shoes and prepare my dog for three seasons of fun and sun and put this winter behind us.
