the story of Eros saving Psyche out of Hades |
The sound of wings that rub in panic along the wall Sometimes I thought I let a track of blood behind But I numbed only. My emotions became indifferent, my words shorter, softer - I thought that I became smaller Now I had told my mother that I would never, never never use a golden arrow again I could see it in her eyes; fear, how the earth would grow old While my freedom had been damaged So often we had been hit already, so much lost. I could not loose Psyche too Until I held her in my arms again, until then – would no-one love Saving my Psyche After Psyche completed two tasks, for she loves Eros Tells Aphrodite her a third and final task; To travel into Hades where no-one would dare help her Once there, Psyche must ask for some beauty of Persephone This beauty of the queen of the Underworld has to be inside a box Like a gift, brought back to Aphrodite by Psyche herself But once Psyche has captured the beauty, she cannot believe it Thinking it was a hallucination, and afraid of Aphrodite She opens the box to see if it would not open to only air But as Psyche moves the lid flees a blue vapor into the darkness Persephone her beauty, gone – and Psyche…defeated She falls to her knees – knowing no more… Destruction overruled her as she fell asleep surrounded by the deathly waves of the Styx Charon himself stared her in the face and lured her closer to drown in waters depth In my panic that she would never wake up Did I kiss her white face – whispering into her ear Angels never fade away…Psyche - But she couldn’t hear my voice, echoing in the far Why hadn’t I told her that she was long forgiven How could she not have felt it, deep inside? As I wiped the infernal sleep off her beauty did I wonder Was this then the moment where I had hoped for I held my Psyche in my arms again, but could it be forever “Eros…” in her eyes lamenting nearly every hope gone “I tried…I –” there were no words for how lost she felt “No, Psyche.” she raised up “You paid enough price” It was time for others then her to pay now “Come –” I could feel her weakness, as I started to lift her Higher and higher, out of Hades, into the light again Trough the shreds of noonday clouds – still so cold Inside his sanctuary Zeus heard the crying mine... The earth shook and trembled The foundations of Mount Olympus quaked When Zeus opened the gates to rise up He thundered from his temple and gave a mighty shout The world shook when Aphrodite came with her anger But Eros shot his golden arrows and scattered Aphrodite her hatred Zeus' lightning flashed, and her words became lamenting Aphrodite surrounded herself with darkness And made her disappearing with tense rain and clouds With Eros’ golden hair striking the darkness with colour And Psyche’s blue eyes shining likely as the sun Shone bright clear light before them And blazed balls of lightning forth as they flew away on the wings of Zephyrus “Eros - never leave my side, my shadow again” |
