Amber leaves stashed like stars on branches of oak,
Crisp grass overflowing pertinent boundaries like an ocean
Meeting the freshly hollowed bark of a willow,
Crossing paths like the horizon,
Where land meets sky.
An explosion of colors,
Carried by the wind to some far off place,
A memory,
Elbow propped and anchor lowered,
Sunlight warming three-leaf ivy,
Lurking in shadow,
Highlighting sunrise golden, silky smooth strands
With an angelic glow,
Hiding the devilish grin
Perforated on cherry stained lips,
A flicker of fire seen in fossilized tawny eyes
Dies down to ash and embers,
The trees whispering hush
As dawn turns to dusk,
Autumn 2008
