WOMEN-THE MAKER OF SOCIETY


From the days of Adam to the days of Atom, Women have continued to secure a niche in different aspects of life. In antique days women were subjugated, treated only as objects and not as subjects of great significance. Earlier there was an unwritten precedence that a godfather is necessary for promoting the woman’s career. Today definitely there is a shift in these perceptions. If a woman comes out in flying colours,in a particular domain, it is perceived that her diligence has earned her the position. Many self-help groups and many organizations have been formed by women. Their main purpose is to accent on the development and empowerment of women.

These movements led by women brought to light women’s proximity to local realities and their ecological insights that are deeper and richer than of international experts. Thus through the persistent efforts of feminist movements in recent decades, women now have access to careers beyond the traditional role of “homemaker”. Significant progress has been achieved in reducing the gender gap in educational qualifications. Younger women today are far more likely to have completed a tertiary qualification than woman 30 years ago. The changes in the labour force led to changes in the attitudes of women about work allowing for “quiet” revolution. But still women face many challenges in workplace as well as personal life. The difficulty of obtaining the recognition of equality is due to historical factors combined with habits and customs history has produced. If women are accommodating and mild, they are exploited. If they are assertive they are perceived as aggressive. Women must be bold enough to face any adverse circumstances. To bring about a change in the society, transformation must occur from the domestic level. A psychological transformation cutting off all the gender discrimination can elevate women to sublime heights, This psychological transformation must occur not only among men but also among women. In a nutshell, Women is the maker of society. She must have the capability to acquiesce the potential of other women which could easily pave the way for women to take further leadership of all levels of society.
