About a nativity play
The Nativity Play

You sit there waiting in anticipation

A big smug grin on your face.

Your child is going to be THE best child in the play.

camera at the ready to capture those unforgettable moments.

Little do you know at that point just HOW unforgettable they will be.

The nursery teacher starts to play the piano as the children are led

All looking and waving at mum, dad, gran, granddad, and whoever else may be there to see their unforgettable performance.

The children are led to their rightful places.

You hold your breath waiting for the nativity play to start.

All is going surprisingly smoothly, then you notice it.

The one child who isn’t doing what he should be doing.

That child is YOUR child.

The nursery teacher tries to encourage him to play his part

He just sits there, finger well and truly shoved up his nose.

Examining the contents of his nose, he takes no notice of what he should be doing.

The other children carry on playing their parts

You cringe and slowly slide down your seat hoping that no one else has noticed your child

Whilst deep inside you know the giggles you can hear from the audience , are aimed at your child.

The blonde curls, the angelic look, do nothing to replace what he is actually doing.

He looks at you and grins the biggest grin you have ever seen.

You try to forget that on the end of his finger is the remnants of the inside of his nose, and you smile back with gritted teeth.

Part of your heart melts, while the other part thinks, ‘ why my child, why not theirs’

You came with camera at the ready for the unforgettable moments

And what unforgettable moments they turned out to be

As baby Jesus is rocked so hard and fast in his cradle, he almost ends up in Tesco

2 miles away !

The end of the nativity arrives, taking your child by the hand you take them home

Telling them how good they were, how UNFORGETTABLE their performance was.

Knowing you have to go through the same thing again in 12 months time.

Whilst in the back of your mind, hoping that nativity plays will be banned by then.
