to write love on her arms-- suicide and self injury awareness
The mistakes of my past are etched onto my skin
Tattoos of the journey that I can never forget
Always forgive
Never regret
I stare at my wrists knowing it’s not the answer
But wondering what is
Maybe if there was enough love in this world to smother everyone
we wouldn’t feel so comforted by pain
The monotonous meditation that takes us out of
The mental mind locks encompassing our world

But if there’s not enough love to keep our country held together
To keep children out of streets
And guns out of our schools
Then we who suffer in silence are left in the dark corner of the light
By night we cower behind the bars of destruction and loathing
By day we smile behind the cage that holds us

I go home and buy a lottery ticket
Just because I know I’m going to loose
Because life is one loss after the other so what’s one more
When the blows just get harder
It seems so logical to just take that chance and leap
Just to see if you’ll survive
Knowing deep down that fate wants you to die

But Fall in love with yourself and let the love spill from your wrists
Then the world will fall into place
In life you have to take your chances
But your chances don’t have to be fatal
And you never have to lose that chance
Just show the world that you have LOVE written
on your arms and In your heart
that the battle wounds of your journey
are what proves that love exists in this world.
