Eternal Shadow

Cold and alone, that was my life
As I stumbled through eternal shadow.
I wished for an end to strife,
But unfulfilled it left me low.

I had no friends, save but one
Who stood by me through all.
Yet even he could not bring the sun
Through my black walls.

I remained in the darkness,
The sadness, and the void.
Wishing for a purpose,
I needed to be loved.

Then I left my home,
Moved to this place.
I felt like a gnome,
Lost and strange-faced.

But then I met you,
I felt something great.
This feeling was new,
But I had to wait.

We didn't talk for a year,
We just never had the chance,
Then when you came near
I was newly entranced.

I don't know how I knew,
I still can't explain.
I do know the first clue,
You chased away the rain.

My love for you was strong,
The strongest emotion for me.
It made me sit and long
For you to make me free.

I was not alone,
I now had you.
Your light, it shone,
You led me through.

Then we were talking,
I fell back to death.
Your words were damning,
I lost my breath.

Your love for me was gone,
You left me that day.
My days have been long,
I don't know the way.

Since then I do try,
But I never win.
My smile is a lie,
I'm garbage in a bin.

I still love you,
Though you do not.
You led me through,
Then broke my heart.

With those words I hope you know,
You plunged me back to eternal shadow.
