Anticipation of a good Thanksgiving - and smiling |
ALL I AM THANKFUL FOR (It's a time for special memories to enter this old gray head) The smell of pumpkin pie cooking, along with homemade bread, fills the air with anticipation, I can hardly wait to see the spread! Turkey waiting patiently to be filled with a scrumptious stuffing, My grandpa hurries into the house, a-huffing and a-puffing. I put on an apron to cover the splatters I've been known to wear and just like mother used to do, I set the table with loving care. You see, it's all the little things that I am so thankful for today, our old family traditions make this a very special Holiday. It's a time to bring out the Christmas cards and write a note to let the folks I haven't seen in years know I'm not yet broke. Oh, the pocketbook is near empty, there isn't much to spare but we'll make do and get by, for there is love in the air. We may have dined on pork and beans just a day or so ago and until Thanksgiving day came 'round, things were pretty slow. I've made a list of all I am thankful for and it's kind of long, but reading it warms my heart and I burst right out into song. It will be good to see the folks again, I really miss them a lot. Uncle Jim and his family will be here with goodies they've bought. Aunt Hilda never was much of a cook but she tries really hard, although some things end up in the dog's dish out in the yard. I'm thankful for a good sense of humor, I love to make folks grin. Last night I dreamed I was dancing and living it up once again! Then I found I'd fallen in love; I kind of wonder about these dreams; Will there ever be another love, I just wonder what it all means! I just mention this in passing, as old folks are apt to do - you can take it with a grain of salt, most of it isn't true. You see, Grandpa's gone to Heaven (I hope) - and Uncle Jim and Aunt Hilda don't exist; my imagination's already to begin! My dreams come and go, there's not much of them to remember so I add a little spice to my life, before the cold month of December. I do have a lot of things to be thankful for and it's just not the day that we call Thanksgiving, for we can give thanks along the way. HAPPY THANKSGIVING! HAPPY LIFE! Countrymom 11/3/09 . |
