Fountain of Youth

The media world would have us believe
in all of their ads and fol-de-rol
that make-up and hair color and wrinkle eraser
will have us heeding the mythical call

such that we'll be young
far beyond our youth--
but tis simpler than that
and here's the truth:

Laughter lines bespeak of humor.
There's no character to an empty plate.
Memories are formed from life well lived
and finally I point to that wondrous gate.

Look between the giggles and smiles,
see, there it is, incontestable proof:
Our children's children keep us young-
for grandchildren ARE the fountain of youth!
