Both share the same desires, but their views are irreconcilable .
Impasse, Chasm of the Self-Righteous

A chasm is forged, a great clef in the world,
fathomless and uncompromising, like conflicting polars;
dividing two worlds of purity and righteousness,
Both worlds as divine as the Garden of Eden,
and both sharing the same desire, to do what is right.

So alike, and yet inherently conflicting.

An impassable chasm forged by incongruent beliefs,
tears their worlds’ asunder. They share the same desire,
to do what is right, and to assimilate their foolish others,
so that they can live in a world of harmony, finally one.

Neither will relent, both ‘know’ they are right.

The war for goodness erupts, they fight,
for all that is good, and just, in this world.
They deify their beliefs, for they know they are right,
"Can’t you see? We are doing you a favour", they say,
"We are trying to spare you from an eternity of damnation."

Both fight an unending war, but maybe, neither is right.

Author's Note: In case the topic is ambiguous to anyone, this is just a 'neutral' take on topics of morality, such as abortion and gay rights. In regards to 'maybe neither are right,' I simply mean that perhaps what is right is subjective (certainly in my mind it is).
