First Glance

At first glance I saw
A fire burn as
From a thousand stars.
The intensity of each flickering
Flame burning away
All that I had know before.
In that instant there was nothing –
No past, no future
Only present – an eternity of now.
There was in that fragment of existence
A lifetime of joy, of pain,
Of despair, of desire
I felt only you before me, behind me
Below and above
I was surrounded, fulfilled;
So perfect was my rapture,
A lifetime was realized
In one first glance.
