A memory I am fond of... We had so much fun when we were kids.

Charmed

My mother watched the television series Charmed all the time. Every Sunday she would watch that new episode since its series premiere in 1998, and, because there was no other TV in the house, I watched it with her. It's the summer of 2001 and the show was nearing the fourth season premiere. I had made two new friends with my neighbors one summer and they ended up both being in the same class as me.

We were seven years old at the time. Well, most of us were seven. Jordan and I were, but Sami had her eighth birthday the week before. School had started up and I was really excited about the next season. One Saturday we were walking down our street, thinking we were the stuff, and Jordan said, "I'm bored. What do you want to do?" while smacking on his gum.

Sami answered after a moment of thinking, "Wanna go to the cliff?"

I was tired of going there, you see. We went there every Saturday, so I piped up and said, "Let's play Charmed."

Jordan and Sami stopped instantly and asked, "What's that?"

I was in a shock of disbelief, "You don't know what Charmed is?"

"No," they both chimed together.

"Ohmigosh," I said, "Come on." I started to run home and they followed. We burst into the door and I shouted at my mom, "Can we watch Charmed?" My mother watched that show and that show only, and she taped every episode just in case she missed one on this VHS tape of hers. The last four episodes from that last season would still be on it. She agreed and that morning, we watched four episodes of Charmed, fast forwarding through the commercials of course.

3 hours and 20 minutes later, the screen turned blue. A moment of silence and then...

"I call Piper's powers!" Sami shouted. "I wanna blow things up and freeze 'em and stuff."

"Then I call Prue's!" I shouted. "That means you get to have Phoebe's powers, Jordan." Sami and I chuckled.

Jordan huffed in response, "Well at least I can kick demon's butt without powers."

"It's okay, you get to fly!" Sami encouraged him, and that did make him feel better.

To prepare ourselves, we made our own Book of Shadows. It was just a little journal I found in the back of my mom's closet, but we filled it with spells and demons and such.

Throughout that entire year we played Charmed. Fighting fake demons was so fun back then; I don't know why we grow out of it. I've always thought role play was the most fun of games. I still hold onto that journal today, and look at it from time to time. Sami and Jordan had better handwriting than I did, so most of it was them. Jordan doesn't have this possession of ours, as he has different ones from our childhood, but this one... our Book of Shadows is mine to keep. I look at it from time to time to remember all the fun we had with you Sami. I miss you.
