A conversation overheard ... (Adult Humor)
A Dozen Roses

My anniversary was near.
The day was fast approaching.
I knew to buy a card and such
without the need for coaching.

I was standing in the checkout line,
having finished all my shopping,
and so I passed the time, like most,
surreptitiously eavesdropping.

Two ladies, standing just ahead,
seemed in a fervent state.
I overheard the taller one
complain about her mate.

"Do you know what that idiot did?
He gave me a rose bouquet!
When I asked  "What did you do?
'Cause I love you's all he'd say."

Now the lady's friend looked puzzled.
"Why I think it's sweet," she said.
I myself was a bit confused
but kept my thoughts in my head.

"I know that sneaky S.O.B.
The only time he shows he cares
is when he wants me to spend time
with my legs up in the air!"

Her friend never cracked a smile,
she just kept a steady gaze...
"Why would you do that?" she asked.
"Don't you own a vase?"

The words caught me by surprise
and I'm sure I laughed out loud.
The only thing that saved me
was the laughter of the crowd.

I'm sure that there's a lesson here
and I admit, to my chagrin,
I can't wait to shop once more
and find a long line to stand in!
