CHRISTMAS CHEER I was down in the dumps, just not in the mood to celebrate Christmas, where people are rude, pushing and shoving their way through a crowd to get the bargains on sale, haughty and proud. Money was tight, though I had tightened my belt, Bills that were due had affected the way that I felt! Then came a miracle of sorts and I can plainly see that Christmas cheer comes with love of family! My son went out to the woods and cut a tree, then cut another, to make a big one, for free! We laughed at the "Charlie Brown" tree for a bit, but it made the difference, the laughter and wit. I added the lights, the bulbs and glittering snow and it looked really fine, even with no gifts below. The spell of doom broken, I looked all around and found some treasures that were gift-bound! Things I had bought when I had some dough would go to my children and grandchildren, so there would be plenty of "oohs" and "aahhs", a smile of recognition and a few big guffaws! Christmas cheer doesn't come from a store, it comes from the heart, who needs anymore? When I stop for a minute and sit down to think the blessings I have appear quick as a wink. For I have faith in God that all will be fine, I sing in the choir and hear the bells chime. I breathe the crisp air, I see the white snow and a heavenly blue sky above, and I know that I am not alone in this world full of pain, that better days are coming to us once again. So shout out "MERRY CHRISTMAS TO YOU!" See the smiles, know that cheer is long overdue! ** Image ID #1185989 Unavailable ** 12/15/08 |
