A poem for people in messy relationships
I think I love you when there’s tissues in your bag.
You bought them ‘long with my romantic mag.
I think I love you when you take the rubbish out.
And talk of interest rates; I know not what about.

I think I love you: when it’s cold, you change my oil.
I show I love you: when I kiss you, you recoil.
I thought I loved you. Then I find a note to say
You love my hair, my eyes, and now you’ve gone away.

I find a way to see you walking through the park.
You have her hand in yours and everything is dark.
I love you when you drink my cup and from my plate.
I hate you when you sing her praises or you’re late.

You love me when you’re with me. Now you’re gone.
I loved you all the time, but now my love is gone.
You love her half the time, but not when you’re with me.
Your love is pragmatic. It works for you, not me.

You’d travel to the end of time. You tell me it’s no lie.
You’d travel to the end of time to be just where I lie.
You’d travel to the end of time if costs were not so high.
You’ll travel to the end of time. For her it is no lie.

You’re with her now. I see past you, her childish grin.
You may be pragmatic, but your love’s just a sin.
I did love you, but love just can’t go on.
Love half the time is just for fools and fun.

So keep pragmatic love; it seems to work for you.
My love needs full time love and that means just for two.
I think I’ll take a walk. It’s time for something new.
I’ll buy a pint of milk, though needs must, without you.
