This is the prologue to a new story that I'm working on. |
PROLOGUE I ran as fast as I could. My lungs were burning and sweat was pouring down my forehead and stinging my eyes, but I kept running. I knew that I was simply being toyed with now. My protector was no where around. To be completely honest he was probably dead by now. And I'd be next. I jumped over a tree and kept going. Limbs and branches slapped at my face but I kept going. They stung and the new scratches hurt, but I kept going. I didn't dare look back. Not when I could hear the sounds of the swirling air a few feet away from me every so often. I stumbled and caught myself on my hands. I looked up as he jumped down in front of me, maybe twenty feet away. He was smirking and his eyes were black. I could hear my heart pounding. As I leaned up and fell back onto my hands the dog tags clattered against one another. I started going backwards as he started walking forward with that amused smirk on his too-beautiful face. I know that by now I'm left alone. This game went bad. It wouldn't matter if I lost my dog tags now - there was no one to escort me out and my partner was probably dead. My partner had to be if he was here with me. As I pressed up against a tree he slipped into a crouch. I could hear a deep growl building in the back of his throat. I looked around frantically for anything sharp enough to harm him. But I saw nothing. I looked back at him. He bared his large fangs. They shined pearly white in the sunlight coming through the tree tops. His tongue ran across them before he inhaled deeply. He let out his breath with a satisfied sigh. I raised my arm in front of me as he lept towards me, knowing that it wouldn't be enough. |
