Life had been hard on the young Berliner. Not that long ago he, and others like him, had been able to roam the streets more or less openly. Now, the major cities had walls around them, the better to keep out undesirable elements – elements like himself, the youth thought. There were gaps which could be exploited, though, if you knew how; Markus knew how. Markus had approached carefully, moving steadily toward the back of the subway car. The man was fat, his skin the color of old paste. Surely he was unmarried, with no close associates, the lad reasoned. Despite all his insecurities and fears, the man would be desperate for companionship. He would provide some, Markus decided...and promise more – whatever it took to get him off the train. He wove a tale of loneliness, and awkwardness with girls, certain it would resonate with the man; he was right. There was frequent eye contact now, the man becoming more comfortable with the encounter, taking in the toned body of his fellow passenger in sidelong glances. Perfect. It had taken nine stops to gain the man's trust; now, it was time. "So - shall we?" Markus suggested. "Outside?" the man asked, dubiously. "It's dark. I promise – no one will see," he coaxed. Finally, a shy smile lifted one corner of his mouth. "I…I shouldn't," he said, his left hand gently coming to rest on the youth's right knee. It was going to happen, Markus thought, all but trembling with anticipation. "Come," he whispered. He paused and cautiously looked around, then continued, "It'll be – fun.” The man’s smile vanished as he shrank back from the boy. "No! Fun is forbidden!" he hissed, then dashed to the other end of the compartment. The young werewolf sighed – another fine meal lost. [298 words] |
