Poem about an ending to a broken relationship
When I look back on all those times,
Thinking of dreams I had left behind,
I realise there was nothing else to do,
But to turn and walk away from you.

You were controlling and abusive from the start,
You destroyed my soul and then my heart.
Never stopping to think of the damage done,
Did it feel good to beat our four year old son?

You see that’s when it happened, that’s when I knew,
I had to get my kids far away, from you.
Not only were you destroying me, but them too,
That’s something as a mother I could not allow you to do.

Inch by inch, bit by bit, you ripped our lives away,
But you never believed there would come a day,
When I woke up to what you had done,
Never did you think that day would come.

But it came and I was stronger than you ,
It was such a very had thing to do ,
I had to involve the authorities and have you removed away
The kids screamed they wanted " daddy" to stay

They hated me for a while and they blamed me ,
You were their hero despite everything, you see.
But through the courts and with help and time
You paid very deeply for your crime.

I stood in that court and looked you in the eye ,
Why did you just sit there and cry?
I fought long and hard and to this day,
Have no idea how I got through that day.

I now have moved home and the children are well
We are so happy, we no longer live in hell,
I met a new man and we have a baby on the way,
But never once will thoughts of the past go away.

You still haunt my dreams and I wake in the night,
I still feel the pain the hurt and the fright
But I am living for the future and I am finally free,
You can no longer hurt me you see.
